Companions are creatures you can summon to help you. You can only have one companion summoned at time and they come in two forms, pets and partners.
Pet skills can range from gathering loot, auto-applying healing potions, providing extra inventory storage or harvesting resources. Partners can consume the powers of Pets, and have a Bond Skill and a Gifted Skill that they will cast for you (how often can depend on their stamina).
If you had pets before patch v81 your old pets will have been removed from your inventory. You'll find new equivalent pet licenses sent to you in parcel post (Social > Parcel Post). Your old Bubba HP pet is gone and you'll have a new Bubba HP you can register (it's now a license, not a summoning book).
Alert! Partner transfers are not supported at this time
If you transfer a character on PC to another server, Partners will lose all their skills, and their grade and fellowship will be reduced to 1. If you send us a support request we can restore lost skills, but we currently cannot fix the grade and fellowship. We have reported this issue and apologize for any inconvenience.
How to get companions
You can get pets and partners at any level. You can get a few pets as quest rewards and at Level 66 you can talk to Loomey the Wandering Scholar in Highwatch and go on a quest for a partner. Companion Licenses can also be purchased through EMP, with Moondrop Fragments, the trade broker, or directly with other players. Once you've used your license to register a companion they can't be traded, banked or swapped between characters.
If you purchase a companion through the En Masse Store you'll need to grab their license through the Item Claim and then use the license inside your inventory to register them. This helps to make sure the correct character has the companion.
How to register a companion
To register your pet or companion you can right click on any pet or companion license in your inventory and it will ask you if you would like to register your pet.
Once you've registered your companion the Companion List will automatically open.
Using your companions
You can access your companions through Social > Companion List or by pressing Shift+P.
From here, you can summon any of your registered companions, grow the strength of your pet, increase the level or your partner and access any special skills. We've written some deeper dives into Pets and Partners to help you navigate these similar, but quite different, companions.
By default you'll be able to list 10 companions. Companion list expansions can be purchased if you'd like more than 10 companions.
Creating companion shortcuts
Companion shortcut keys can be created through Shortcut screen.
- Press O (or go to System > Options).
- Select Shortcuts.
- Scroll down to the Companion section.
- Click where you would like to create a shortcut.
- Press the key or key combination you'd like to set up as a shortcut and then press Enter to confirm.
- If there's a conflict with another shortcut it'll give you a warning.
- Press Apply or Ok to save your changes.
Sorting and deleting your companions
To make it easier to get to, the pets and partners you use most frequently (for example, you might have a dungeon bash partner, an explore the world partner and storage pets on high rotation) you can sort your pets. Tick sort to use this feature. You can then move companions up or down, or delete them by pressing x.
If you press x to delete you'll get a confirmation screen before you can delete your companion. Generally, it's better to combine companions, as you can roll the dice and see if you get a pet or partner you like more. But you can delete them, if you prefer.
