Enchanting helps speed your gameplay in earlier levels, and becomes critical when you reach the end game and your final gear set.
Weapons, body armor, hand armor, and foot armor can all be enchanted. Select the piece of gear you want to enchant (or later on, convert or upgrade), and press the Y/△ button to open the context menu for that item. Select Enchant to see what materials you need to collect to enchant your item.
Enchanting is more difficult as you move up to a higher enchantment bonus. If you fail to enchant an item, you receive a percentage bonus to your next attempt, until you succeed. A successful enchanting attempt resets your chance to the base. Once you succeed the fail bonuses will be used and you’ll have the next level of difficulty to face.
Once you get to end-game gear, your equipment can earn item XP. Gear that is equipped when you complete daily quests will earn item XP that will increase your odds. Once you've successfully enchanted (or upgraded) your item, your Item XP total will be reduced by the amount of Item XP required for that level.
Upgrading and Converting
Before you get to Level 65, all you can really do with your gear is enchant it and equip crystals. At level 65 you’ll get access to equipment that can be upgraded and converted into superior items, allowing you to progress your equipment to higher and higher levels without needing to buy, find or craft new equipment.
As soon as you reach level 65, you’ll get a quest that gives you access to Guardian gear, end-game gear, equipment that can be upgraded and from then on will be the only equipment set you need. Like enchanting, upgrading gets more difficult the higher up you get. The odds get brutally hard at the higher tier levels, and to those of you who have reached the higher tiers, we salute you. Every time you fail to enchant an item, you’ll get a percentage bonus to your next attempt until you succeed. Once you succeed the fail bonuses will be used and you’ll have the next level of difficulty to face.
Upgrading an item turns it into a new item with a much higher power level. Any etchings will be lost, dual effects will be lost, and your enchantment level will be zero.
The Prospect gear set will provide you with upgrade-able rings, necklace and circlet. Prospect gear will progress to Bellum, Daylight, Entropy, and then to Ethereal.
Your end game brooch will be Parthian. It can then be upgraded to Simple Empowered, Empowered and then to Quatrefoil.
The Guardian gear set will provide you with upgrade-able and enchant-able weapons, body armor, hand armor, and foot armor. Guardian gear can progress all the way up to Fraxim, through conversion as well as upgrading.
To upgrade an enchantable item (all the items in the Guardian gear set), you need to get it to the maximum level of enchantment. Once you get to maximum level, you’ll be able to upgrade instead of enchant.
If you convert an item you do not need to enchant it to maximum level, but you can only convert an item that is Stormcry or Heroic Oath. You convert your gear once on its way to Fraxim, there are two paths you can take to get to the top tier of equipment
Upgrade path for all equipment
- Guardian at maximum enchantment upgrades to Twistshard
- Twistshard at maximum enchantment upgrades to Frostmetal
- Frostmetal at maximum enchantment upgrades to Stormcry
At Stormcry you can choose one of two paths
Convert your Stormcry gear to Gatebreak through conversion. You can convert your Stormcry gear at any enchantment level and that enchantment level will be carried over to Gatebreak. Get your Gatebreak gear to maximum enchantment level to upgrade it to Fraxim.
Get your Stormcry gear to maximum enchantment level and upgrade your gear to Heroic Oath. Heroic Oath can then be converted to Fraxim.
Known Issue for Gatebreak Belt
Some Gatebreak Belts don't show the ability to upgrade to Faxim. Please send us a support request if you have this issue. We'll gladly fix it for you, and your information may help us track down how and when this occurs.
Enigmatic Gear/Sealed Items
All of the end-game gear is enigmatic. That means that when you first equip it you will identify what magical effects you’d like it to have. Effects that are in yellow mean that they are recommended for your character class.
You can use semi-enigmatic scrolls to change the magical effects. How many scrolls you need varies depending on the effect.
Liberation scrolls are a way of liberating some high tier end-game equipment. If gear can be liberated it will say what criteria it needs to meet on the gear’s description (for example Gatebreak gear will say that it can be liberated when enchanted to +7). Gear can be liberated once and if it has that ability it will say “Can be liberated 1 time” next to the Soulbound description.
Because gear can only be liberated once, any gear you purchase from the Trade Broker can’t be liberated. Liberation scrolls can be purchased with EMP or can be purchased from the Trade Broker.
